In a move that stunned political insiders and space enthusiasts alike, President Donald Trump abruptly rescinded his nomination of billionaire astronaut and tech mogul Jared Isaacman to head NASA. The announcement came late Saturday, following revelations of Isaacman’s prior political donations to prominent Democrats — a move that clashed with Trump’s staunch “America First” agenda.
The decision marks a dramatic reversal for Isaacman, who just weeks ago appeared to be coasting toward confirmation. Backed by Elon Musk and boasting deep spaceflight credentials, Isaacman had already cleared a key Senate committee vote by a solid 19-9 margin. A full Senate confirmation vote — where he reportedly had support from over 70 Senators — was expected to seal the deal next week.
But President Trump pulled the plug, citing concerns that surfaced during a review of Isaacman’s political past.
“After a thorough review of prior associations, I am hereby withdrawing the nomination of Jared Isaacman to head NASA. I will soon announce a new Nominee who will be Mission aligned, and put America First in Space. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
