In yet another desperate attempt to vilify President Trump and his America First immigration policies, Democrats and their media allies launched an emotional smear campaign over a heartbreaking story involving a gravely ill child from Mexico. But as the facts continue to surface, their narrative is crumbling fast.
The left-wing media was quick to seize on the case of four-year-old Sofia Vargas, a young girl from Mexico battling a rare and deadly condition known as short bowel syndrome. Sofia requires at least 14 hours of intravenous nutrition every day just to survive. Without it, the consequences could be fatal.
According to reports, Sofia and her family originally entered the U.S. in July 2023 through the Biden administration’s CBP One app. They were granted humanitarian parole so Sofia could access advanced medical care not available in Mexico. However, earlier this month, the family received notices stating their legal status had been revoked — prompting a storm of outrage from leftist activists, who immediately tried to blame the Trump administration.
During a press conference, immigration attorney Gina Amato from Public Counsel sounded the alarm:
“They received a subsequent notice weeks later, and a third notice in May verifying that they are no longer in lawful status and are now vulnerable to deportation,” she said. “The notices also ordered the family to leave the United States immediately.”
