In a stunning admission during a Senate confirmation hearing, Joe Kent—President Trump’s nominee to lead the National Counterterrorism Center—confirmed that the intelligence community is actively investigating whether federal agencies, including the FBI and DHS, were involved in fueling the January 6 Capitol riot.
Kent, a former special forces operative, is currently acting chief of staff to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard as he awaits Senate approval. His candid testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee has sparked fresh scrutiny of the federal government’s conduct during one of the most controversial events in modern U.S. history.

When pressed by Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) about allegations that federal agents may have instigated the chaos on January 6, Kent did not flinch: “We’re looking into whether elements of the government could have enhanced the criminal acuity of some of the rioters that day.”
Kelly pushed further, referencing past statements made by Kent. “So you’ve said on Twitter that the FBI and the intelligence community were involved in planning and directing the riot, is that correct?” Kent responded: “Sounds like it.”
