President Donald Trump’s campaign to purge Republicans he views as disloyal scored another major victory Tuesday night after longtime Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie was defeated in a heated Republican primary by Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein.
The stunning loss marks the end of Massie’s 12-year run in Congress and sends a loud message to Republicans across the country: crossing Trump in today’s GOP comes with serious political consequences.
