Trump Just Told Senate: “Finish It NOW!”

But Trump, coming off a foreign policy triumph with his recent peace breakthrough between Iran and Israel, remains upbeat. He took to Truth Social on Friday to urge Republicans to keep pushing forward:

“The Great Republicans in the U.S. Senate are working all weekend to finish our ‘ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,’” Trump wrote.

In the same post, Trump outlined an ambitious wish list for the legislation, describing it as the key to unleashing a new era of American prosperity and security:

“We are on the precipice of delivering Massive General Tax Cuts, NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME, NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY FOR OUR SENIORS, Permanently Securing our Borders, an even Bigger and More Powerful Military (I rebuilt it during my First Term, and it is already the Best, but we will make it BETTER!), unleashing our American Economy, dominating the Energy Market, creating Jobs, and getting money back to American Families,” Trump wrote.

Trump made clear he wants the House ready to act quickly once the Senate finalizes its version:

“The House of Representatives must be ready to send it to my desk before July 4th — We can get it done.”

In true Trump fashion, he cast the potential passage of the bill as a patriotic milestone, while swiping at the Biden years:

“It will be a wonderful Celebration for our Country, which is right now, ‘The Hottest Country anywhere in the World’ — And to think, just last year, we were a laughingstock,” Trump wrote.

Beyond tax cuts and border security, Trump signaled the bill also contains a significant aviation overhaul:

“After many years of decline in our air traffic control system, the One Big Beautiful Bill will modernize this decrepit relic and give America the best, most advanced air traffic control system on Earth—THE BEST BY FAR!”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune confirmed the Senate could kick off formal debate as early as Saturday, provided they clear a few procedural hurdles. Speaking to The Hill, Thune explained:

“All of it depends on we got a few things we’re waiting on, outcomes from the parliamentarian. If we can get some of those questions, issues landed then my expectation is at some point, yeah, tomorrow we’ll be ready to go.”

Earlier this week, Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough struck portions of the House-approved bill that attempted to place limits on Medicaid cuts, ruling that those provisions didn’t directly affect the federal budget, as required under reconciliation rules.

Meanwhile, frustrations within the administration are spilling over as the clock ticks toward Trump’s July 4th target. Border Czar Tom Homan voiced his anger in blunt terms, telling Time:

“What the hell is the matter with everybody up in Congress?” Homan said Thursday. “Pass the bill, so we make this country safe, so we can stop the violence against ICE officers.”

Despite Trump’s optimism, there’s still opposition brewing among some Republicans. Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky remains firmly against the bill, while Georgia’s Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who initially supported the package, has threatened to reverse course if certain provisions remain—particularly a cap on how states can regulate artificial intelligence.

As senators work through the weekend, the stakes are clear: Trump wants a legislative win he can sign before fireworks light up the sky on Independence Day. Whether Republicans can unite to deliver his “One Big Beautiful Bill” remains the question that could define the next week in Washington.
