In a move certain to capture global headlines, King Charles is rolling out the royal red carpet for President Donald Trump in what’s shaping up to be a historic and politically charged state visit to the United Kingdom this September.
Buckingham Palace is reportedly preparing to host the former U.S. president and First Lady Melania Trump at Windsor Castle—a venue steeped in centuries of British history and pageantry—for Trump’s second state visit to the UK. The monarch’s invitation marks an exceedingly rare honor, as no elected leader has ever been granted two UK state visits in modern times.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Britain’s newly minted Labour leader, is said to have delivered the King’s invitation personally to Trump earlier this year during a meeting in the Oval Office. While Charles originally envisioned a gathering at either Balmoral Castle or Dumfries House in Scotland, palace insiders say the event was shifted to Windsor Castle for a more formal and controlled setting.
Sources told The Times of London that Starmer accelerated the schedule, moving the visit up by several months in what appears to be a strategic move to highlight the enduring ties between the US and the UK.
