President Donald Trump just put the political world on notice with a bold new move to restore trust in America’s elections. On Saturday, he revealed plans to sign a sweeping executive order that would require voter ID across the country, restrict mail-in ballots, and mandate the use of paper ballots.
Trump dropped the bombshell on Truth Social, declaring, “Voter I.D. Must Be Part of Every Single Vote. NO EXCEPTIONS! I Will Be Doing An Executive Order To That End!!! Also, No Mail-In Voting, Except For Those That Are Very Ill, And The Far Away Military. USE PAPER BALLOTS ONLY!!! President DJT.”
Previous Legal Battles
This isn’t Trump’s first attempt to force the issue of election integrity. Earlier this year, he tried to implement voter ID through executive action, but the measure hit a legal roadblock. Clinton-appointed Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia struck down key provisions, insisting that such reforms fall under the power of Congress.
