Connecticut Democrat Rep. Rosa DeLauro’s scowl said it all. The rage on the left was palpable, and Trump wasted no time using their hostility to his advantage. Early in the speech, he called them out for their inability to celebrate even the most universally good news.
“This is my fifth such speech to Congress, and, once again, I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize, there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud,” Trump declared. “Nothing I can do.
“I could find a cure to the most devastating disease, a disease that would wipe out entire nations, or announce the answers to the greatest economy in history or the stoppage of crime to the lowest levels ever recorded, and these people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand, and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements.
“They won’t do it no matter what. Five, five times I’ve been up here. It’s very sad,” he said. “It just shouldn’t be this way.”
He wasn’t wrong. The hostility from Democrats reached such a fever pitch that Rep. Al Green from Texas had to be physically ejected for heckling. And when they weren’t disrupting, they sat in silence—refusing to applaud even the most heartwarming moments.
One such moment involved 13-year-old Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, a young cancer survivor who dreamed of becoming a police officer. Diagnosed with brain cancer six years ago and given only five months to live, DJ defied the odds. He had been sworn in as an honorary officer in various police departments across the country.

Trump shared his story, then made an unforgettable announcement:
“Since that time, DJ and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true, and DJ has been sworn in as an honorary law enforcement officer, actually a number of times,” Trump said, quoting a New York Times transcript.
“The police love him. The police departments love him. And tonight, DJ, we are going to do you the biggest honor of them all. I am asking our new Secret Service director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service.”
A beautiful, powerful moment. And yet, Democrats couldn’t bring themselves to stand and cheer. Social media lit up, highlighting their cold response to something every American should celebrate.
At what point did virtue-signaling become more important to the left than supporting undeniable good? They had an opportunity to rally behind an inspiring story, to back policies that strengthen the country, but they couldn’t do it—not if it meant giving credit to Trump.
The lesson from this speech? Democrats can’t stand America winning unless they’re the ones in charge. Even then, they’re only proud when their party is the one racking up victories. The message was clear: under Trump’s leadership, America comes first—not the left’s agenda.
And Americans were watching.
