Trump Just Crossed a Line With Iran

President Donald Trump signaled over the weekend that the United States is prepared to dramatically escalate pressure on Iran if Tehran refuses to move forward with a proposed diplomatic agreement tied to its nuclear ambitions and security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House before departing for his golf club in Sterling, Virginia, Trump made it clear that the administration is willing to revive and even expand a powerful U.S. military operation that was only recently paused.

The president then hinted that any renewed operation would be significantly more aggressive than before.

“We may go back to Project Freedom if things don’t happen, but it’ll be Project Freedom Plus, meaning Project Freedom plus other things.”
