Former President Donald Trump has never been shy about confronting China. From tariffs to travel bans, he built much of his political brand on being tough against America’s biggest adversary. But his latest announcement about Chinese students has his most loyal supporters asking: what just happened?

Trump Drops the Bombshell
From the Oval Office on Monday, Trump declared that the U.S. will open its doors to 600,000 Chinese students – more than doubling the current 270,000.
“I hear so many stories that we’re not going to allow their students,” Trump said. “We’re going to allow their students to come in. It’s very important, 600,000 students. It’s very important. But we’re going to get along with China.”
The remark landed like a thunderclap. After years of warnings about Chinese espionage inside American universities, the announcement looked to many like a reversal of his signature “America First” stance.
