All six lawmakers are veterans or former intelligence officials.
The video directly addresses active-duty service members and intelligence personnel, warning that “the threats to our Constitution aren’t just coming from abroad, but from right here at home.”²
Throughout the clip, they urge troops to “refuse illegal orders” and claim the Trump administration “is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens.”³
However, they offered no concrete examples of illegal commands. Instead, it was a blanket appeal for military and intelligence personnel to question and potentially disregard their chain of command.
Trump Blasts Lawmakers as “Seditious”
In response, Trump posted on Truth Social Thursday morning, condemning the lawmakers’ actions as “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL” and calling for their arrests and trials.⁴
“Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL,” Trump wrote. “Their words cannot be allowed to stand — We won’t have a Country anymore!!! An example MUST BE SET.”⁵
He continued in another post: “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!”⁶ Trump also shared posts from other users, including one stating, “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!”⁷
White House Officials Condemn the Video
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller told Fox News the video amounts to insurrection.⁸
“It’s a general call for rebellion from the CIA and the armed services of the United States by Democrat lawmakers saying that you have not only the right but the duty and the obligation to defy orders of the commander in chief,” Miller stated.⁹
Press Secretary Highlights the Danger
At Thursday’s press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt faced tough questions from the media, including CBS News’ Nancy Cordes asking if Trump “wants to execute members of Congress.”
“No,” Leavitt replied, pivoting quickly to the bigger issue.¹⁰
She emphasized that the lawmakers “conspired together to orchestrate a video message to members of the United States military, to active duty service members, to members of the national security apparatus, encouraging them to defy the president’s lawful orders.”¹²
“The sanctity of our military rests on the chain of command, and if that chain of command is broken, it can lead to people getting killed,” Leavitt said. “It can lead to chaos, and that’s what these members of Congress who swore an oath to abide by the constitution are essentially encouraging.”¹³
Leavitt noted the lawmakers’ credentials: Slotkin worked for the CIA, Kelly was a Navy captain, and Goodlander served as a naval officer and is married to former National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.¹⁴
“These members knew what they were doing,” she said. “They were leaning into their credentials as former members of our military, as veterans, as former members of the national security apparatus to signal to people serving under this commander-in-chief, Donald Trump, that you can defy him and you can betray your oath of office.”¹⁵
When Cordes attempted to argue the lawmakers only suggested troops could refuse “illegal orders,” Leavitt shut that down:
“They’re suggesting, Nancy, that the president has given illegal orders, which he has not,” she said. “Every single order that is given to this United States military by this commander in chief and through this chain of command, through the secretary of war, is lawful. And the courts have proven that.”¹⁶
Leavitt stressed that the Trump administration has consistently operated within the law, including at the Supreme Court, and that encouraging military personnel to defy lawful orders is both reckless and dangerous.¹⁷⁻¹⁸
She also highlighted the media double standard: “And if this were Republican Members of Congress who were encouraging members of the military and members of our U.S. government to defy orders from the President, this entire room would be up in arms,” Leavitt said.¹⁹
Democrats’ Hypocrisy on Full Display
For years, Democrats accused Trump of threatening democracy and warned about potential military coups. Now, they are actively undermining the chain of command and encouraging military personnel to defy lawful orders.
The hypocrisy is striking—but for those familiar with the radical Left, it’s completely predictable.
