The United States Supreme Court is once again at the center of a political and constitutional firestorm, and President Donald Trump is making it clear he believes the stakes could not be higher. After the high court delivered what Trump views as a damaging setback to his tariff authority, the former president is now sounding the alarm over a far more consequential case—one he says could hand America’s adversaries a long-sought strategic advantage.
The next battle before the Supreme Court involves birthright citizenship, with oral arguments scheduled for April 1. Trump has warned that if the justices rule against his executive order, the consequences will extend well beyond a routine legal disagreement. In his view, a misstep would effectively reward foreign governments—especially China—that have spent years exploiting what conservatives argue is a misreading of the Constitution.
A Quiet Industry Washington Ignored
For more than a decade, what critics call “birth tourism” has operated in plain sight. Trump addressed the issue bluntly in a Truth Social post on Monday, arguing that a ruling against his order would benefit “China and various other Nations, who are making an absolute fortune on Birthright Citizenship.”
That claim has been backed up by years of investigative reporting. Journalist Peter Schweizer, in his book The Invisible Coup and during a recent appearance on Fox News, detailed how wealthy Chinese nationals have sent pregnant women to the United States to give birth. The goal, Schweizer explained, is to secure U.S. citizenship for their children, who are then raised back in China within institutions tied to the Chinese Communist Party.
Once those children turn 18, they are free to return to the United States as full citizens—complete with voting rights, access to sensitive government positions, and legal protections—despite having no meaningful connection or allegiance to the country that issued their passport.
