Mexico erupted into chaos this weekend after one of the most feared cartel bosses in modern history was finally taken off the battlefield. But while American intelligence helped make that possible, hundreds of U.S. citizens suddenly found themselves trapped in a country spiraling into violent retaliation. And once again, it was American veterans stepping up when government warnings were not enough.

The death of Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes marks one of the most significant blows ever delivered against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. For years, he sat atop a criminal empire that flooded American cities with fentanyl and blood money. On Sunday, Mexican forces ended that reign. Behind the scenes, the United States played a critical role.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the U.S. “provided intelligence support to the Mexican government” for the Tapalpa operation that eliminated El Mencho after years of pursuit.
“President Trump has been very clear,” Leavitt wrote. “The United States will ensure narcoterrorists sending deadly drugs to our homeland are forced to face the wrath of justice they have long deserved.”
