A quiet stop for a smoothie in a liberal college town turned into a national controversy after a Michigan father was refused service for wearing a pro-Trump hoodie. What followed has now escalated far beyond a disagreement at a restaurant counter.

The situation has spiraled into online harassment, death threats, and police involvement after the man’s family became the target of thousands of hostile messages following the viral incident.
Jake Lindemyer and his wife Erika visited a Smoothie King location on Jackson Road in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Sunday, March 1. Lindemyer walked in wearing a sweatshirt that read “Trump 2024 – Take America Back.”
Instead of placing their order, the couple says the employees behind the counter refused to serve them.
According to video captured during the encounter, the workers made it clear the problem was Lindemyer’s political clothing. Erika began filming the exchange as the confrontation unfolded.
“We were just wanting a smoothie,” she told the workers on camera. “You said, ‘We don’t feel comfortable serving you’ because of my husband’s hoodie. That is discrimination.”
