The Trump administration is taking its fight to eliminate government waste all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. On Friday, officials filed an emergency appeal asking the high court to override a lower court ruling that blocked the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing critical Social Security data — a move that could reshape how federal agencies streamline operations.
In the appeal, the administration laid out its frustration with judicial overreach, arguing that key personnel are being sidelined in their efforts to modernize bloated government systems.

The lower court reasoned that DOGE operatives had no “need” to handle the data — a claim the administration strongly contests.
