The Trump administration is pushing back hard against swirling media speculation that President Donald Trump has lost confidence in Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. The rumors erupted following the sudden resignation of a key national security figure, but the White House moved quickly to shut them down.
During a Fox News appearance, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made the administration’s position crystal clear. When asked directly whether Trump still supports Gabbard, she responded without hesitation: “He does, yes.” The timing of the statement was notable, coming as Gabbard was actively testifying before Congress amid heightened scrutiny over intelligence decisions tied to Iran.
The controversy stems from the abrupt resignation of Joe Kent, who had been serving as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center. His departure sent shockwaves through Washington, marking the first major exit from Trump’s second-term national security team tied directly to a policy dispute.
Kent did not leave quietly.
In a resignation letter that immediately ignited debate, he made it clear his decision was rooted in deep disagreement over the administration’s posture toward Iran. “After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today,” Kent wrote.
