President Donald Trump is defending what he describes as a deliberate decision not to use the power of the presidency to pursue his political adversaries, even as he accuses Democrats of treating him and his supporters unfairly.
During an exchange with reporters at the White House on Wednesday, October 7, Trump revisited his longstanding feud with Hillary Clinton, former President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama. His remarks came as questions about a possible third impeachment effort against him continue to surface ahead of the November midterm elections.
The president’s central argument was straightforward: he believes he had opportunities to take action against prominent Democrats but chose not to, citing his responsibility to respect the office he holds.
The comments took an unexpected turn during a discussion about what Democrats might do if they regain control of Congress.
