Former President Donald Trump didn’t hold back during a recent exchange with CNN’s Dana Bash, dropping a savage one-liner about Iran’s hardline officials—and exposing a major shift in Middle East diplomacy that’s sending shockwaves across Washington.
According to Bash, who recounted her private interview with Trump while speaking to John Berman on CNN, Trump revealed that the Iranian officials he was once engaged with in nuclear deal talks are now dead.
“The people I was dealing with are dead, the hardliners,” Trump reportedly said during their exchange. When Bash pressed him for clarity—“So what you’re saying is Israel has now killed the people who you were dealing with?”—Trump fired back with a sharp quip: “They didn’t die of the flu, they didn’t die of COVID.”
