Despite the fatal recklessness, the teen was slapped with a mere probation sentence in Colorado’s 18th Judicial District, plus community service.
ICE made it clear in their statement that no illegal immigrant is beyond their reach: “As part of its routine operations, ICE arrests aliens who commit crimes and other individuals who have violated our nation’s immigration laws. All aliens in violation of U.S. immigration law may be subject to arrest, detention and, if found removable by final order, removal from the United States, regardless of nationality.”
This case isn’t just a local tragedy — it’s now part of a broader national crackdown.
On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court handed President Trump another major victory by allowing his administration to strip temporary legal protections from hundreds of thousands of migrants, including those from Venezuela, Cuba, Haiti, and Nicaragua.
This move reversed an earlier ruling by Boston-based U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani, who blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to end a mass immigration “parole” program put in place by Joe Biden.
The high court, in an unsigned opinion, stayed Talwani’s decision — a signal that the president’s immigration overhaul is back in full force. Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented.
According to the law, immigration parole is meant to be granted only for “urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit,” and allows temporary stay and work eligibility. But the Trump team argues that Biden’s usage was a blanket abuse of that law.
On day one of his return to the White House, Trump signed an executive order to dismantle these humanitarian parole programs. By March, the Department of Homeland Security acted on it — cutting the two-year parole terms and opening the door for “expedited removal” procedures.
Friday’s court win is just the latest in a string of urgent cases the Trump administration has fast-tracked to the nation’s highest court — seeking to roll back Biden-era protections and enforce tighter immigration controls.
Just a day earlier, the Court greenlit the administration’s move to end temporary protected status for over 350,000 Venezuelans. That program had shielded them from deportation while legal challenges played out — a shield that now appears to be crumbling.
The message is clear: under Trump’s leadership, the era of open-border leniency is over. From teen drivers who kill and walk free, to mass programs shielding hundreds of thousands — the tide is turning. And for illegal aliens, that means the clock is ticking.
