In a stunning move Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump’s administration placed more than 100 National Security Council staffers on immediate administrative leave, a dramatic restructuring of the team responsible for shaping U.S. foreign policy.
The decision, which sources say had been in the works behind closed doors, marks one of the most sweeping overhauls of the NSC in recent memory — and signals Trump’s intent to centralize power and streamline decision-making at the highest levels of government.
Fired Fast: Staffers Given Less Than an Hour to Clear Out
According to CNN, the staff purge happened rapidly. An internal email from NSC chief of staff Brian McCormack went out just after 4 p.m., informing affected employees that they had 30 minutes to pack up and vacate the premises.
The message, sent with the subject line “Your return to home agency,” told off-site staff to contact an email address to retrieve their belongings later and return government-issued devices.
