Despite that clear instruction, the DOJ under Merrick Garland and the FBI under Christopher Wray refused to comply — ignoring the president’s order and blocking the documents from ever reaching the light of day. That blockade remained in place for over four years.
Back in January 2021, Trump noted that the documents had been sent to the White House by the DOJ at his request on December 30, 2020. Yet, despite his willingness to accept the FBI’s proposed redactions at the time, the DOJ slammed the brakes.
A memo from then–White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, sent the morning of Trump’s departure from office, emphasized: “The Justice Department must release the binder of declassified documents related to the flawed Trump–Russia investigation, pending a Privacy Act review.” Still, nothing happened.
Now, under Trump’s renewed order, Patel has cut through the bureaucratic red tape and delivered the goods directly to lawmakers.
Why does this matter? Because these documents dismantle one of the largest political smears in modern history — a coordinated assault on a sitting U.S. president based on zero verified evidence.
The original Crossfire Hurricane probe was launched in 2016 based on flimsy, unproven claims of Trump-Russia collusion, a theory pushed heavily by Democrats and their media allies. A key source for that narrative? The infamous Steele dossier — a work of fiction funded by the Clinton campaign through law firm Perkins Coie and opposition research firm Fusion GPS.
The DOJ Inspector General’s report later torched the FBI’s conduct, stating the Steele dossier played a “central and essential” role in securing FISA surveillance on former Trump adviser Carter Page.
Robert Mueller’s two-year special counsel probe concluded with a thud, finding no criminal conspiracy between Trump and the Russian government.

Special Counsel John Durham’s more recent investigation was even more damning, stating: “Neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.”
Durham went further, noting the “FBI ignored the fact that at no time before, during, or after Crossfire Hurricane were investigators able to corroborate a single substantive allegation in the Steele dossier reporting.”
And yet, despite this mountain of exonerating evidence, the Deep State dug in its heels for years, refusing to release the full story. Until now.
Patel’s document delivery is more than a paper drop — it’s a sledgehammer to the rotting foundation of one of the biggest hoaxes ever perpetrated against the American people. The question now is simple:
Who will be held accountable?
