A team of archeologists has uncovered a series of mysterious and historic inscriptions hidden in plain sight at what many believe to be the location of one of the most significant events in Christianity — the Last Supper.
The stunning find, announced this Easter season by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), involved over 40 ancient markings and symbols hidden in the Cenacle on Mount Zion, Jerusalem — the traditional site believed to have hosted Jesus Christ’s final meal with His disciples before His crucifixion.

Partnering with the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), researchers used cutting-edge technology to unearth the inscriptions, many of which had faded or been concealed by time. The archeologists utilized a combination of multispectral photography and Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI), later digitally merging the images to illuminate long-lost writings etched by pilgrims centuries ago.
“When put together, the inscriptions provide a unique insight into the geographical origins of the pilgrims,” historian Ilya Berkovich explained. “This was far more diverse than current Western-dominated research perspective led us to believe.”
