Tom Homan, the Trump-Vance administration’s soon-to-be border czar, made headlines this week after a tense exchange left CNN anchor Kasie Hunt momentarily speechless. His sharp comments, directed at Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, signaled his firm stance on immigration enforcement and resistance from progressive leaders.
Homan, the incoming head of U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE), appeared on Fox News Monday to address Johnston’s recent vow to block federal immigration authorities from detaining migrants suspected of criminal activity. Johnston had previously gained national attention for comparing his city’s resistance to ICE to the 1989 protests at Tiananmen Square, a controversial remark he later walked back. However, his retraction wasn’t enough to placate Homan, who accused Johnston of enabling criminal activity.

“What it says is that it’s a felony if you knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien from immigration authorities. It’s also a felony to impede a federal law enforcement officer,” Homan stated on Fox News’ Hannity. He added sharply, “If he don’t help, that’s fine. He can get the hell out of the way, but we’re going to go do the job.”
