Traffic Thug Goes Berserk on Cop Outside School!

A tense standoff outside a Jacksonville charter school turned violent Tuesday afternoon, marking the first time Florida’s new “Halo Law” was put into action. The law, which took effect in January, makes it a crime to interfere with police officers within 25 feet while they’re performing their duties.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), 39-year-old Erika McGriff—a habitual traffic offender with a revoked license—set off the chain of events when she abandoned her car running in the middle of an intersection near IDEA Charter School on Bassett Road. What began as a traffic violation quickly spiraled into a full-blown confrontation caught on bodycam and cellphone footage.

Officer Randy Holton, assigned to the school as part of the Safe Schools program, approached McGriff about the illegally parked vehicle. According to reports, McGriff denied the car was hers and began walking away, ignoring his instructions. Remaining calm, Holton warned her, “Listen, you can get a ticket or you can keep playing these games and go to jail. I’m going to give you one chance. You created the drama.”

Moments later, the situation exploded. As Holton attempted to detain McGriff, she resisted, yelling at him not to touch her in front of her child. Witness videos show McGriff screaming, swearing, and physically fighting back. Holton then moved to restrain her, taking her to the ground as the struggle intensified.
