The automaker has been caught in a nightmare recall that could leave nearly 400,000 American drivers completely blind when they shift into reverse — all because of a shocking software failure that slipped through the cracks.

A Software Glitch That Turns Safety Into a Gamble

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has ordered Toyota to recall 394,000 vehicles across the U.S., including 2022–2025 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid trucks and 2023–2025 Sequoia Hybrid SUVs.

The issue? The rearview camera — a federally mandated safety feature — can suddenly go black without warning.

Imagine backing out of your driveway or a crowded parking lot, and the camera you rely on to keep your family safe just dies on you. No screen, no warning, no visibility. Just you, your mirrors, and a whole lot of guesswork.
