Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) has managed to spark a fresh political firestorm—and potentially dent his rumored White House ambitions—after getting caught peddling a misleading narrative about a recent federal immigration enforcement action in California.
Gallego, who’s reportedly contemplating a run for president in 2028, unleashed fierce criticism at former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. But it turns out his accusations were built on an embarrassing factual error: the farm workers he claimed were picking food for Americans were actually working at marijuana operations.
The controversy erupted after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents executed two raids on cannabis farms in Ventura County, California. Those raids weren’t quiet affairs. Violent left-wing demonstrators rushed to the scene, physically attacking federal officers. Protesters lobbed rocks at law enforcement vehicles, and one individual even escalated matters by pulling out a gun and opening fire at agents.
