This House Vote Just Changed Everything

In a dramatic late-evening session, the U.S. House of Representatives voted Wednesday to approve sweeping legislation aimed at blocking irreversible medical interventions on minors. The bill, titled the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, makes it a federal crime to provide sex-change surgeries or certain hormonal treatments to children, marking one of the most significant congressional actions yet on the issue.

Authored by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the measure establishes criminal penalties for anyone who “knowingly perform[s], or attempt[s] to perform, genital or bodily mutilation on another person who is a minor.” Violators could face up to ten years in federal prison. The bill also extends criminal liability to parents or guardians who facilitate, consent to, or transport minors for such procedures.

Supporters framed the legislation as a long-overdue safeguard for children who cannot legally consent to permanent, life-altering medical decisions. The bill further bars chemical castration and hormone-based treatments for minors, drawing a hard line against what Republicans describe as experimental practices pushed by activist doctors and ideological institutions.
