Texas has long been considered one of the Republican Party’s most dependable strongholds. President Donald Trump carried the Lone Star State comfortably in 2024, collecting 6,393,597 votes, or 56.1% of the statewide total, compared with Kamala Harris’ 4,835,250 votes, representing 42.5%.

But the latest election results have raised some serious questions about the state’s political landscape.
Democrats delivered a remarkable performance Tuesday night, capturing two of Texas’ most closely watched statewide contests. James Talarico defeated Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate race, while Democrat Gina Hinojosa defeated incumbent Republican Governor Greg Abbott.
The numbers are particularly striking when compared with the previous presidential election.
