A New Year’s celebration turned into a nightmare early Monday morning as an unidentified suspect drove a white pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, leaving at least 10 people dead and dozens more wounded. The attack, described by Mayor LaToya Cantrell as a “terrorist attack,” has sparked widespread fear and speculation.
FBI Takes Charge of Investigation
The FBI is leading the investigation into the horrific incident, which occurred just as revelers were ringing in the new year. Alethea Duncan, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s New Orleans field office, confirmed that at least one improvised explosive device (IED) was found at the scene, further deepening the gravity of the situation.

“This morning, an individual drove a car into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing a number of people and injuring dozens of others,” the FBI said in a statement. “The subject then engaged with local law enforcement and is now deceased. The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism.”
