A horrifying scene unfolded at London’s Southend Airport as a small aircraft went down in a fiery crash just after lifting off the runway. Shocked witnesses described a “fireball” exploding into the sky, and graphic footage quickly spread across social media as onlookers captured the terrifying moment.
The aircraft involved in the incident has been identified as a Beech B200, a compact twin-prop plane designed to carry up to 13 passengers in addition to two crew members. Authorities confirmed the plane had departed for Lelystad, a city in the Netherlands, before the fatal crash.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene following a flood of 999 calls around 4 p.m. Local law enforcement wasted no time confirming the gravity of the situation.
“We remain on the scene of a serious incident at Southend Airport,” police stated.
“We were alerted shortly before 4 pm to reports of a collision involving one 12-metre plane.
