Texas Republicans are turning the cost of gasoline into a major campaign issue, and Sen. Ted Cruz is making sure Democrats are forced to answer for their long record on energy policy.
The argument is straightforward: Americans remember what they paid at the pump during the Biden administration, and Republicans believe those memories could become a serious problem for Democrats heading into the next election.
Cruz made that case during an appearance with Sean Hannity on Fox News Channel on September 30, 2026, where he went directly after Democratic energy policies and the prices Americans experienced under President Joe Biden.
“When Joe Biden was president, gas prices were five bucks a gallon,” Cruz said.
