Teacher Calls MAGA Shirt a ‘Hate Crime!’

A Spanish teacher at Cerritos High School in California recently stirred controversy after storming out of class and accusing a student of committing a “hate crime” simply for wearing a Make America Great Again (MAGA) shirt. The teacher, who has not been named, sent a lengthy email to students, expressing anger over the student’s attire and its political implications.

The teacher claimed that the MAGA shirt was an attempt to intimidate both students and teachers, accusing President Trump of being a “fascist” and further asserting that the shirt’s message was harmful in the current political climate. In an email dated November 7, which was later shared on social media, the teacher wrote, “Given the current political climate and ABC USD’s policy of neutrality NOT being neutral in the sense that students are allowed to express their political views by wearing their preferred political party attire and teachers are NOT allowed to express their political views by wearing their preferred political party attire, I am having a disagreement with administration regarding this double standard.”
