In what’s shaping up to be one of the most shocking and sinister attacks on public officials in recent memory, two Democrat lawmakers and their spouses were ambushed in their own homes in a pair of targeted shootings that left two dead and two clinging to life.
According to officials, the shooter was dressed in police gear — a disturbing twist that has raised fears about impersonation tactics and security vulnerabilities for elected officials across the country.
Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, confirmed that “Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were killed in the shootings. State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were seriously wounded.” The attacks occurred in the early morning hours Saturday, in two separate cities just minutes apart: Champlin and Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
