A Texas Democratic congressional candidate is facing a wave of controversy after a social media post surfaced in which she called for a federal immigration detention facility near San Antonio to be repurposed as what critics are describing as an internment camp for “American Zionists.”
Maureen Galindo, a Democratic runoff candidate in the newly redrawn 35th Congressional District, made the remarks in an Instagram post over the weekend. The post quickly circulated online and triggered immediate backlash due to its language and implications.
In the post, Galindo wrote:
“She’ll turn Karnes ICE Detention Center into a prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers for human trafficking,” Galindo wrote, referring to herself in the third person. “It will also be a castration processing center for pedophiles, which will probably be most of the Zionists.”
