Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem just sent a shockwave through the criminal smuggling world — and made it clear that under her watch, justice will be swift and unforgiving.
On May 6, Noem announced she is seeking the death penalty against two Mexican nationals involved in a horrifying smuggling operation that left at least three people dead and several others missing off the coast of California.
The message couldn’t be clearer: the days of soft-pedaling border crime are over.
“This tragedy is a stark reminder of the inhumanity and lethal danger inherent to human smuggling at sea,” Noem declared. “Their deaths were not only avoidable but were also the direct result of the greed and indifference of smugglers who exploited them.”
