The weight-loss drug effect hits restaurants hard
The rise of GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro has reshaped dining habits. Nearly 12% of Americans now use these appetite-suppressing drugs, which make people feel full after just a few bites.
The results are visible on restaurant tables. Half-eaten plates are becoming the norm, and profits are taking a hit. Research from Cornell University found households with GLP-1 users cut grocery spending by 6% in just six months. Morgan Stanley reports 63% of these users order significantly less when dining out, while overall restaurant visits among GLP-1 users have dropped 28%.
