The situation unfolded when Justice Alito explained to The New York Times that the flag was positioned by his wife in reaction to a neighborly dispute. “I had no involvement whatsoever in the flying of the flag,” Justice Alito stated. He detailed that the flag was a response to “objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs” used by a neighbor.
