Federal Authorities Say the Threats Were Explicit
According to the allegations, Kretsinger posted two videos on X on June 30 and directed them at Pirro’s official account.
He appeared shirtless in one video and allegedly delivered an unmistakable threat.
“I’m specifically targeting you when I come to Washington, D.C., and put a bullet directly between your eyes,” he allegedly said.
The alleged threat then expanded beyond Pirro.
“And if Trump keeps up his bull—t I may kill the president too.”
Authorities say another video appeared only minutes later.
“I’m gonna come to DC very f—kin soon sweetheart and I’m gonna put a bullet in your f—kin head.”
Those statements were disturbing enough on their own.
But investigators reportedly uncovered another detail that made the case significantly more alarming.
Investigators Say Kretsinger Had Been Traveling
Federal agents interviewed Kretsinger on July 9.
During that encounter, authorities say he acknowledged that the X account used to publish the videos belonged to him.
More significantly, Kretsinger allegedly told investigators he had traveled to Washington, Florida, and Long Island as part of attempts to locate Pirro.
That allegation potentially transforms the case from an ugly social-media outburst into something authorities had reason to treat as a serious security concern.
An arrest warrant was ultimately issued on August 7, and Kretsinger was taken into custody four days later.
He now faces a federal charge of transmitting a threat to injure another person across state lines. The offense can carry a prison sentence of up to five years if he is convicted.
Government Opposed His Release
Federal prosecutors sought to keep Kretsinger detained.
The court ultimately chose another route.
A magistrate judge ordered Kretsinger released into an inpatient psychiatric treatment program, with his release subject to conditions while the criminal proceedings continue.
That decision is likely to become one of the most closely scrutinized elements of the case.
Pirro’s office responded by emphasizing that threats of political violence cannot be tolerated regardless of who is targeted.
“No one should ever be threatened or targeted for violence,” a spokesperson said. “Public officials are no exception, and we commend the United States Marshals Service for its swift action.”
The statement comes amid broader concerns about threats directed at judges, prosecutors, elected officials, and other government personnel.
The U.S. Marshals Service reportedly opened hundreds of investigations involving threats against federal judges during fiscal year 2025, continuing a pattern that has increasingly forced law-enforcement agencies to devote resources to protecting officials and evaluating threats made online.
Pirro Has Long Been a Political Lightning Rod
Pirro’s appointment was fiercely opposed by Democrats.
Sen. Adam Schiff was among her most prominent critics, previously declaring that Pirro was “totally unfit to serve.”
Political criticism, of course, is protected speech and is categorically different from threatening violence. There is no evidence that Schiff or other political opponents had any connection to Kretsinger’s alleged conduct.
But the episode nevertheless arrives during a period in which heated political rhetoric exists alongside a very real security problem facing officials across the ideological spectrum.
Pirro, a former judge, prosecutor, and Fox News personality, became interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia after President Donald Trump selected her in May 2025.
Since taking the position, she has aggressively promoted prosecutions involving illegal firearms, violent offenders, narcotics, and other crimes in the nation’s capital.
Her office has touted a sharp increase in prosecutions of felons accused of illegally possessing firearms, making public safety a central feature of Pirro’s tenure.
That high-profile role also makes her an obvious target for political criticism.
It should never make her a target for a bullet.
A Case That Goes Beyond Angry Posts
The most consequential allegation against Kretsinger isn’t simply that he posted obscene or threatening videos.
It’s that investigators say he admitted getting on the road.
If prosecutors prove that Kretsinger threatened Pirro and traveled across multiple jurisdictions while attempting to find her, the case illustrates the nightmare scenario confronting authorities tasked with evaluating online threats: determining when inflammatory speech is merely venting and when the person behind the screen may actually act.
Federal authorities decided Kretsinger’s alleged conduct warranted an arrest.
The court decided he could be released under strict conditions into psychiatric treatment.
Now the criminal justice system will determine whether prosecutors can prove their allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.
For Pirro, however, the disturbing reality is already clear.
A man allegedly told the world exactly what he wanted to do to her — and federal investigators say he wasn’t necessarily sitting at home when he said it.
