U.S. Senator Chris Coons is recovering after being involved in a multi-vehicle collision Sunday morning in Delaware that sent six people to the hospital with minor injuries. Authorities say the crash appears to have been triggered after the driver of a pickup truck suffered a suspected medical emergency behind the wheel.
According to officials, the accident occurred around 10:20 a.m. on June 28 along Savannah Road in Lewes. Sen. Coons was traveling in the front passenger seat of a vehicle driven by one of his staff members when the incident unfolded.
Following the collision, the Delaware Democrat shared an update on social media describing what had happened.
