Arnold Schwarzenegger, the former “Republican” California governor and Hollywood icon, made waves this week by endorsing Kamala Harris for president, a move that has set off intense reactions across the political spectrum. Known for his once staunchly conservative stance and famously saying, “Screw your freedom!” to those opposed to COVID lockdowns, Schwarzenegger has now turned to openly supporting Democratic candidates, much to the outrage of many of his former supporters.
In a lengthy statement, Schwarzenegger decried both political parties but held back no criticism for former President Trump, a figure he’s repeatedly criticized. Taking thinly veiled swipes, Schwarzenegger dismissed Trump as divisive, un-American, and unfit to serve, sharing his vote to “move forward” with Harris and Tim Walz.

Schwarzenegger stated, “I don’t really do endorsements… I am a former Republican Governor,” and he emphasized that his experiences in office gave him a deep respect for “working with the other side, not insulting them.” He continued, saying his distaste for today’s politics comes from what he sees as a betrayal of American ideals. He sharply criticized both parties for failing to address critical issues like immigration and the national debt while lambasting Trump for a lack of respect for election outcomes.
