Schumer’s Shutdown BACKFIRES Big Time!

The tide may finally be turning in Washington’s political blame game.

A new YouGov/The Economist poll reveals that more Americans are beginning to fault Democrats for the ongoing government shutdown—what many conservatives have dubbed the “Schumer Shutdown.” While the media has been eager to frame the impasse as the GOP’s fault, the numbers tell a different story: the gap is closing fast, and independents are shifting blame toward Democrats.

Public Opinion Is Shifting Fast

According to the survey, 39% of Americans still point to President Trump and congressional Republicans as responsible for the shutdown, while 33% now blame Democrats—a mere six-point gap. Just a week earlier, the difference was nearly double.

Last week’s numbers had 41% blaming Trump and Republicans versus 30% blaming Democrats. The new results mark a notable swing in voter sentiment as Americans grow frustrated with gridlock in Congress.

At the same time, the share of voters who hold both sides equally responsible dropped slightly—from 23% to 20%—suggesting that more Americans are beginning to choose a side.
