Meanwhile, the real-world consequences of Washington’s gridlock are becoming impossible to ignore.
Across major airports—from Houston to New Orleans to New York—travelers are facing mounting delays as Transportation Security Administration staffing levels continue to drop. With paychecks frozen due to the shutdown, many TSA workers are calling out sick, creating long lines and missed flights that are quickly turning into a nationwide headache.
And the situation is about to get worse.
By the end of the week, TSA agents are expected to miss yet another paycheck, marking their second full pay period without compensation. For thousands of federal workers tasked with keeping the country safe, the financial strain is growing by the day.
The Department of Homeland Security is not a small operation. It includes critical agencies like the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Customs and Border Protection—all of which are now caught in the crossfire of political brinkmanship.
Republicans are making sure voters understand exactly who they believe is responsible.
“Anyone waiting for hours just to miss their flights will not soon forget, and Republicans are going to continue reminding Americans that it’s the Democrats putting their safety at risk just to protect criminal illegal aliens,” a House GOP leadership aide told Fox News Digital on Monday.
The same aide doubled down, adding, “The problem for Democrats in their latest shutdown is they are hurting American citizens in an effort to protect criminal illegals and reopen our border, as evidenced by their own words and bills they are pushing to defund Customs and Border Patrol.”
Behind the scenes, negotiations remain stalled.
Republicans have rejected a series of Democratic demands tied to immigration enforcement, including proposals requiring judicial warrants for certain operations and restrictions on how federal agents conduct themselves in the field. Those sticking points have frozen any meaningful progress in talks.
Adding another layer to the standoff, Trump has reportedly urged Republicans not to accept any deal unless Democrats also agree to advance the SAVE America Act, a separate election integrity proposal. That condition has further complicated an already tense negotiation.
In the Senate, the math remains unforgiving. Any funding bill will require at least some Democratic support to overcome a filibuster, leaving both sides locked in a political stalemate with no clear off-ramp.
Still, House Republicans are moving forward, determined to keep the spotlight on the impasse.
Rep. Juan Ciscomani, who is leading the latest version of the DHS funding bill, made clear that patience has run out.
“This standoff has gone on long enough,” Ciscomani told Fox News Digital on Monday. “The men and women who keep our country safe here at home are a critical part of our national security—they need to get paid, now. These professionals should never be caught in the middle of political games, yet that’s exactly what has happened. It’s shameful.”
Even the resolution supporting DHS workers is expected to pass, though it remains uncertain how many Democrats will back it.
“Instead of joining the bipartisan majority in supporting full funding for DHS, including commonsense reforms like body cameras and de-escalation training, Democratic leadership is afraid of the radical ‘Defund ICE’ movement and unwilling to compromise to protect the American people,” Mackenzie told Fox News Digital. “This situation is unacceptable, and it must end immediately.”
Democratic leaders, however, continue to dig in.
Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have argued that controversial immigration enforcement actions in major cities justify their refusal to support funding measures that would continue those operations. For them, the issue is not funding DHS broadly—it is how that money would be used.
But as the shutdown stretches on, the political battle is no longer confined to Capitol Hill.
It is playing out in airport terminals, security lines, and missed departures across the country—where ordinary Americans are paying the price for Washington’s inability to reach a deal.

You can bet that every person that encountered needing to go to the airport to take a trip and ended up there for hours and hours due to the Democratic Parties Stupid Moves. You can bet not only the ones at the airport but all their friends and family members are going to vote NO for every Senator Democrat that comes up for re-election that caused this catastrophe and hurting people. They will re-elect Senator John Fettterman. The rest of the Senator Democrats will be history because they were dumb enough to follow Shitty Chucky Schumer like sheep to the slaughterhouse! How Stupid They Were!
