London’s left-wing mayor walked himself straight into a moment he clearly didn’t see coming. What was supposed to be a cheerful public appearance at a Christmas celebration turned into an awkward spectacle that sent social media into overdrive.
During a community performance of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Sadiq Khan suddenly appeared stunned as the crowd reached the famous line praising Jesus Christ as “the newborn king.” The Muslim mayor, known for his progressive posturing and frequent jabs at conservatives, visibly stiffened the instant he registered the lyric he was repeating.
Spectators said his smile faded, his eyes darted around the stage, and he looked like someone caught in the wrong room at the wrong time. When the hymn wrapped up, he delivered a stiff clap that felt more like an apology than enthusiasm.
