Over the weekend, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer railed against Trump, claiming he had launched an “illegal” war without congressional approval.
“It’s a violation of the law to do what they did without getting the authorization of Congress,” Schumer told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.
But Schumer’s outrage collapses under the facts. Trump didn’t invade Venezuela to topple a government. He executed a warrant to arrest an indicted drug kingpin masquerading as a president.
“Maduro is the head of the Cartel de Los Soles, a narco-terror organization which has taken possession of a country,” Rubio said during a Mar-a-Lago press briefing. “He is under indictment for pushing drugs into the United States.”
The Justice Department indicted Maduro on narcoterrorism charges back in 2020, offering a $50 million reward for his capture. Every Democrat in Washington, including Schumer, knew about it. Yet for five years, no action was taken.
Meanwhile, Biden allowed a wanted narcotics trafficker to continue ruling Venezuela while U.S. streets were flooded with cocaine. Trump enforced the law, and suddenly Democrats claim he’s the lawbreaker.
The Operation Democrats Can’t Spin
The facts make Democrats look ridiculous. Operation Absolute Resolve lasted under 30 minutes.
A fleet of 150 U.S. aircraft supported a precision team that touched down at Maduro’s compound in Caracas at 2:01 AM local time. By 4:29 AM, Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were on a U.S. aircraft carrier en route to New York.
Both now face serious charges in the Southern District of New York, including narcoterrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, and possession of destructive devices.¹
Maduro allegedly funneled up to 250 tons of cocaine annually through Venezuela by 2020² and collaborated directly with the Sinaloa Cartel and other violent trafficking groups. His own nephews were caught in 2015 attempting to ship hundreds of kilograms of cocaine from his presidential hangar, openly declaring they were “at war with the United States.”³
Yet Schumer considers enforcing a lawful arrest warrant “reckless.” Where was his outrage when Obama authorized drone strikes on American citizens? Where was his concern when Hillary Clinton destroyed Libya without congressional approval?
“We came, we saw, he died,” Clinton famously said about Gaddafi’s death after an eight-month bombing campaign. Not a word from Schumer about violating the War Powers Resolution then.
Rubio Exposes the Real Motive
The truth is Democrats aren’t worried about the Constitution—they’re terrified Trump proved he has the courage to stop the drug cartels that Biden ignored.
“We continue to reserve the right to take strikes against drug boats that are bringing drugs towards the United States that are being operated by transnational criminal organizations including the Cartel de los Soles,” Rubio told Kristen Welker.⁴
This is just the beginning. Trump had already designated eight Latin American gangs as Foreign Terrorist Organizations in February 2025, giving him the legal authority to take action like we do against ISIS or al-Qaeda.
Maduro ran the Western Hemisphere’s largest narcoterrorist network. His Cartel de los Soles corrupted Venezuela’s military, intelligence services, and judiciary to protect cocaine shipments.⁵ Arresting him didn’t require Congress any more than Obama needed approval to kill Osama bin Laden.
Yet Trump Derangement Syndrome has Democrats defending a cocaine kingpin. Schumer claims Trump is “creating an endless war” and breaking his promise to avoid new conflicts.
That’s nonsense. Trump campaigned on securing the border and taking on the cartels. He delivered. Maduro, once pouring cocaine into America with impunity, now sits in a Manhattan jail cell—and Chuck Schumer is throwing a fit.
The American people are watching—and they see exactly who’s protecting criminals and who’s enforcing the law.

It is not “former” President Trump. He is the current president! You repeatedly get this wrong.
Schumer is the minority leader.
