Voters in New York City may want to take a hard look at who is now shaping housing policy at City Hall.
A newly resurfaced video and social media trail reveal that a top appointee under Mayor Zohran Mamdani once openly promoted the seizure of private property and described homeownership itself as an instrument of white supremacy.
The footage, which dates back to 2018, has sparked outrage after critics discovered it features Mamdani’s newly installed tenant advocate making explicit calls for collectivizing property and dismantling private ownership. The comments are now drawing national attention as concerns grow about the ideological direction of the city’s leadership.
At the center of the controversy is Cea Weaver, who was recently appointed as director of New York City’s Office to Protect Tenants. Weaver previously identified as a radical activist and used her social media platforms to push openly pro Communist rhetoric before deleting her account.
One of those statements left little room for interpretation.
“Seize private property!” she said on June 13, 2018.
In another post from the same period, Weaver went even further, targeting the concept of owning a home.
