The Princess Royal’s recent trip to Ireland wasn’t just another ceremonial stop — it was a masterclass in strategic diplomacy.
At 74, Anne traveled to Dublin for what appeared to be a straightforward diplomatic visit. She met with Irish President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina at Áras an Uachtaráin, handling the formalities with her usual precision. But the real brilliance came after the political handshakes were over.
Instead of returning home, Princess Anne headed straight to the Royal Dublin Society for the opening of the 150th Dublin Horse Show. This wasn’t just about waving to the crowd. Anne toured a special exhibition, presented rosettes to the winners in the Small Hunters category, and engaged with the equestrian community — a world she knows inside and out.
President Higgins had nothing but admiration for her visit.
