Republicans Just Made Big Election Gains in Georgia!

In a major win for election integrity advocates, Republicans successfully gained access for poll watchers at Georgia ballot counting centers after initially being denied entry. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley announced the development following reports that Georgia counties had planned to accept early ballots beyond the November 1 deadline. This sparked multiple legal challenges from the GOP, as the party fights to uphold state election laws amid what they call “questionable practices” in Democrat-leaning counties.

The controversy first unfolded after election officials in certain high-density Democratic areas, including Fulton County, declared plans to keep polling locations open over the weekend to allow absentee ballot returns. Georgia Republicans quickly condemned this as a clear violation of state law, which mandates all drop boxes close at the end of the early voting period, as stipulated by subsection (d) of Code Section 21-2-385. In a Friday press release, the Georgia GOP stated, “This must be stopped immediately, and those willfully breaking Georgia law should be held accountable.” The party further accused Fulton County officials of situating these ballot drop locations in areas likely to benefit Democratic candidates.

An additional layer of contention emerged Saturday morning when Fulton County Registration Manager Kathryn Glenn directed election officials via email to keep poll watchers out of the drop-off areas, only permitting them to observe from outside the buildings. “FYI – There are NO WATCHERS approved for ballot drop off! Do not let them in the building,” Glenn’s email read, adding that security details should enforce the rule.
