Federal authorities have now identified the man responsible for the horrifying late-night shooting that turned Austin’s normally packed entertainment corridor into a crime scene. What began as a routine weekend crowd quickly descended into chaos as gunfire erupted, leaving multiple victims dead or wounded. Investigators are now probing whether the violence was driven by extremist ideology.
According to reporting by Karol Markowicz of the New York Post, federal law enforcement is treating the attack as a potential act of terrorism after troubling evidence was discovered inside the suspect’s vehicle.
The shooter has been identified as Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old American citizen originally born in Senegal. Authorities say Diagne had been living in Pflugerville prior to the attack. A Quran reportedly found inside his car has become a focal point of the federal investigation.
Markowicz noted the seriousness of that discovery, writing: “The shooting is being investigated as motivated by ideology. A Quran was found in his car.”
