PBS host Margaret Hoover gave one of the Democratic Socialists of America’s newest political stars a national platform — and one exchange about America’s founding principles is likely to raise eyebrows among conservatives.
Melat Kiros, the Denver socialist who recently defeated longtime Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette in a stunning primary upset, appeared on PBS’s Firing Line for an extended interview with Hoover.
DeGette had represented the Denver-based district for 15 terms. Kiros’ victory therefore represented more than another Democratic primary result: It signaled the growing strength of the socialist movement inside the party.
