With Election Day approaching on November 3, control of the U.S. Senate has become one of the most closely watched contests of the 2026 midterm elections.
Both parties are investing heavily in competitive states, while competing election forecasts offer different assessments of the battle for the chamber. Although Republicans currently hold a 53-seat majority, Democrats are attempting to capitalize on several closely contested races that could reshape the balance of power in Washington.
Beyond the candidates themselves, the enormous sums being spent on advertising, campaign operations, and voter outreach have become a defining feature of this year’s election cycle.
A Republican victory would preserve the current Senate alignment and give President Donald Trump a Congress more closely aligned with his administration’s legislative priorities. A Democratic takeover, meanwhile, would change the political dynamics surrounding presidential nominations, congressional investigations, and future legislation.
